Dispossession by Degrees : Indian Land and Identity in Natick, Massachusetts, 1650-1790
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (March, 1997)
Average review score:

Dispelling the myth that Native Americans simply disappearedDispossession By Degrees: Indian Land And Identity In Natick, Massachusetts 1650-1790 by Jean M. O'Brien (Associate Professor of History, University of Minnesota) is a close and scholarly study of how Native American peoples from different tribal backgrounds came together for the purpose of working collaboratively to cope the cultural impact of European invaders, and to form a life for themselves even as English settlers extended their range of influence during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Dispelling the myth that Native Americans simply disappeared from the land, Dispossession By Degrees presents a carefully researched focus upon the Natick tribe and settlement that sought to coexist with an unending influx of settlers. An invaluable, informative, insightful contribution, Dispossession By Degrees is an original and very highly recommended addition to Native American Studies reading lists and American History reference collections.

Dog-Friendly New England: A Traveler's Companion
Published in Paperback by Countryman Pr (April, 2003)
Average review score:

This Book Is A Must-Have!I've purchased a few pet travel books, but this one is by far the best one I've seen. My husband, dog and I just came back from a vacation in Portland, ME and this book was indispensable. Not only did it list some great pet shops to visit, but also provided us with a wonderful place to leave the puppy at Doggie Day Camp while we went shopping for the day. The other pet travel guides I have usually just list lodging accomodations, but this book lists not only canine-friendly places to stay, but also recreational areas, restaurants, boarding and grooming services and even vets in the area in case of a puppy emergency! All entries have addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and websites if available. In addition, the front section of the book has some great travel tips. Each region of each state is given a "biscuit rating" as to its level of canine-friendliness and each has a handy map. If you love to travel in New England and don't want to leave Fido at home, then you need this book.

Published in Paperback by Pet Friendly Productions (June, 1997)

Invaluable ResourceI found this guide indispensable to traveling with my golden, Molly. After I exausted every resource to run away for the weekend, and was at wit's end, Eileen's guide came to the rescue. I have referred to it, time and time again, with happy results. I recommend it to anyone who wants to travel with their pooch and not feel like a criminal.

Ending the Last Cold War: Korean Arms Control and Security in Northeast Asia
Published in Hardcover by Dartmouth Pub Co (June, 1997)
Average review score:

A blueprint of the confidence building between two KoreasAs a colleague working in the Arms Control Office of the Korean Ministry of National Defense, I would like to make a review on this book for those interested in Korean issues. Some say that history never repeats itself and there is nothing to learn form it. But still it is absolutely true that there is no future without the past. So it is natural to take a look at the success story of the European arms control efforts culminated in the German unification, and try to extract from them anything useful for the future. In this vein, this book presents a concise summary of arms control experiences in Europe and discussions on the applicability of the European arms control model to Northeast Asia and two Koreas. The author (Col. Dr. Lee) points out both the penetrating similarities between two regions' arms control environment that should be exploited and the fundamental disparities that shouldn't be overlooked, which comprise the essential guidelines for drawing the actual blueprints of confidence and security building in this final battlefield of the cold war.

Enjoying New Jersey Outdoors: A Year-Round Guide to Outdoor Recreation in the Garden State and Nearby
Published in Paperback by Rutgers University Press (July, 1991)
Average review score:

There Really are Gardens in JerseyI was going to Jersey to see my friend Jennifer Rollins and I thought that I had better get a boook about the state before I went. This book was informative and written with the kind of insight only an experienced resident of New Jersey could provide. It opens up a whole new world to the reader and it is almost like you are there before you even go. As a matter of fact, after reading the book I almost did not go because it felt like I had already been there. But I went anyway to do some hiking and enjoy the beautiful countryside with my friend Jennifer. The author is brilliant. I bet she has really smart kids because that kind of brilliance gets passed on. Do not pass up a chance to read this book.

Ephrata Cloister: Pennsylvania Trail of History Guide
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (September, 2000)
Average review score:

Beautiful Guide is concise and up-to-dateThe author and photographer of this new guide to the Ephrata Cloister show their love and understanding of this unusual historic site. John Bradley does a wonderful job of capturing tons of history and the flavor of this religious experiment in a few, well-crafted words. The photographer, Craig A. Benner, obviously selected only the best of a lifetime of great photographs that take you to all corners of the Cloister and capture the distinctive look of the medieval-style architecture and peaceful atmosphere. There's nothing in my extensive collection of books on this site that captures the experience of this unique place as well as this book. Short of a visit there's nothing I'd recommend more... and then, the book would serve you well with it's map and site guide.

The Everything Guide to New England: Lodging, Restaurants, Beaches, and Must-See Attractions (Everything Series)
Published in Paperback by Adams Media Corporation (April, 2002)
Average review score:

Helpful book -- Bargain priceI found this book after visiting Kim's website on About.com. Divided into chapters that cover six New England states, this book offers not only travel destinations, but website addresses, phone numbers, maps and tons of helpful information. I found the "Travel Tips" and "Fast Facts" interesting and the Day Trip suggestions are a lifesaver since I don't have a lot of time to research options. This book will help you plan a New England getaway -- or buy one to give to a friend, or send to someone you know who lives there. They'll love it!

The Faces of Gettysburg: Photographs from the Gettysburg National Military Park Library
Published in Paperback by Rank & File Pub (February, 1998)
Average review score:

The Faces of Gettysburg-Awesome!This is a wonderful book that originated from the idea of the Wall of Faces at the Gettysburg Visitors Center. The Gettysburg Nat. Mil. Park Library has received over 500 images donated from families and private collectors. This book(album) contains 200 of these images. Some of the images arrive with a bit of history or family lore. The book is divided into three parts: July 1, July 2, and July 3. The images are arranged into alphabetical order and display the soldiers name, rank, unit, age(some)and the final result of the individual)survived, killed, wounded or captured.) Most of the images show amazing detail and I enjoyed studying the uniforms, weapons and gear that the soldiers actually carried onto the battlefield. Also on page 52 is my distant cousin,Capt.Charles A. Phillips from Salem, MA. who suvived to become an attorney after the war.
